Immigration Update | Singapore
3 November 2017
The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will introduce an electronic-Permanent Residence (e-PR) system for PR applications on 18 December 2017.
Currently, PR applicants must make an appointment with ICA to submit their PR application documents. With the new e-PR system, applicants can key in the required information into an electronic application form on ICA’s website. Supporting documents can also be scanned and submitted electronically. With this new e-service, applicants will no longer need to make an appointment to submit their PR applications or attend an interview in-person.
Who will be affected?
The following parties will be affected:
Anyone applying for Singaporean Permanent Residence after 18 December 2017.
Currently, PR applicants must make an appointment with ICA to submit their PR application and supporting documents. With the new e-application, this process will no longer be required.
Applicants will need a valid Singpass account to apply and a digital passport-size photograph with a white background.
Applications will only be accepted through the e-PR system 18 December 2017 onwards.
All available appointment slots before 18 December 2017 have been released for booking and ICA will not release any additional slots. For applicants who have already secured a slot they will not be affected and may continue to submit hard copy applications with ICA during their appointment.
There will be an application fee of S$ 100 and a further S$ 20 for a successful application. This will be applicable for all PR applications submitted after December 18, 2017.
Santa Fe Analysis:
The processing time is expected to take 4-6 months with some cases potentially taking longer. In time, we expect this processing time to decrease.
It is expected that this will help streamline the process for all applicants and overall make it a better and faster experience.
